The fourth of July weekend at Bear Lake turned out fantastic! We had hull-flyin wind all three days filled with good company and great food. The first annual “Gumball Rally” was a fun two heats around a long course running from the east shore to the west shore of Bear Lake. We were given bonus points for packing on as many of our family members as were willing. Check out the results below. Click here to see some photos.
Results of the Gumball Rally.
The Handicaps for the Gumball score the same as the Labeau.
Although these adjustments to the base Portsmouth handicaps may be a bit zany, it is our attempt to
compensate and encourage sailing with family and friends, extra crew ect.
These handicaps are adjusted as you can see, are an EXACT science.
If you sail with your wife, putting your marriage on the line, you get a little help. +2
If your crew is 70 years or older, you get some help. +1
If you have a monster crew, you get some relief. +2.5
If you have an extra crew member, you get a break. +2
If you bring your family +5
You get dinged on your handicap:
If you carry an extra headsail. -2
If single hand a double handed boat with full sail -2
If you steal someone else’s crew. -2 accompanied with applause
If your a wimp merely ordering a glass of water -3
Normal crew/boat/sails no adjustment to base handicap.
You get the idea!
The seconds were removed in this example for ease of scoring, except where close finishes
made a difference in placement.
