How would it feel to be in warm Pensacola Florida sailing with North America’s best sailors right now instead of putting our boats away for the winter? The f-18 nationals just got underway back east and they will go all week. I’m excited to follow the progress of these great sailors as they battle for the title of North America’s best f-18 sailor. It’s great to see some of the guys that we sailed with in Long Beach out there racing in the championship.
I was surprised to see how much the Nacra Infusion is taking over in the F-18 scene! This could just be an eastern U.S. thing for this particular race, who knows. Of the 33 boats in the race, 21 are Nacra Infusions, 6 Capricorns, and 6 Tigers. All the Tigers are pretty close to the back of the pack after the second day of racing except for Dan Delave, the NAF-18 Chair. As was displayed at the F-18 Worlds this year in Spain, it looks like the reign of the Tiger is well over. The Capricorns are doing quite well with one in the 1st and 3rd spots. If you want to follow the results, the check out the
NA F-18 association website for play by play posts. Also, the
Beachcats website has the official results and tons of great photos.
As a side note, If any one is looking to step up to a Nacra F-18 Infusion, I am thinking about selling my ‘07 for a good price ($12.5 K) to pick up a newer one from a friend. Brand new they are now $18 K. I would prefer to keep it here in Utah to help build our fleet. The F-18 is quickly becoming one of the biggest innovative cat fleets around.
