Hey Quarath, welcome to the world of cat sailing! It is such a fun sport and I am sure you will love it. Do you have any specific questions that we can help you out with? Prindle 18s are fast boats, I'm looking forward to seeing it out on the water soon. Deer Creek is probably the closest really good place to sail for you. The wind consistently picks up right around noon-2 PM and it usually blows for a good few hours. The GSL is a decent place to sail, we don't go there too often, but once in a while it is nice. It has been a bit low for a few years so you have to be careful with your rudders (I don't think the prindle 18 has boards). Let me know if you have any specific questions and we hope to have you come join us for some of the Utah Sailing Association sails. Take care,
Shaun

we'll lots of questions probably but I'm not sure where to start. I have Tom House coming to help me go over all the rigging tomorrow night. The tramp was shot and I was missing 2 battens, The port rudder casting was broke. I have all those comming from Pete Begle in Big Bear Lake, CA tomorrow as well. Mostly I just have to put it all togetter. I have put the mast up once. It was not fun. I have 2 side shrouds and forstay cables. I have some trap cables but they look homeade are not all there. I am not going to put them on right now. I can get some from Pete for a good price and will have to order them later this week when I have some money.
Mostly I am going West yellowstone next weekend and want to take the boat so I am scrambling to get all the basics together before then I have to get the licensing tomorrow as well. I hope to put it in the water before we go so maybe Friday evening. I think we are gonna go by way of Bear Lake and put it in on Sat then up to yellowstone. Anyone know anything about sailing on Henries Lake, Hebgen Lake, or Yellowstone Lake?
What do you guys carry for emergency gear (other than life vest of course) Do you have to have a throwable flotation devive on a Cat if so, What to you use and where do you put it?

Sounds like fun sorting it all out. I am probably too late getting back to you to be of much help for your Yellowstone trip, I hope it all goes well. As far as your profile, after you update it, make sure you click “update profile” on the bottom left before you leave the page, that should save your updates. Since this website is new, there are not a whole lot of readers of the forum yet. If you want to send out some general questions that many people will see, try using our yahoo group forum at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/utahsailing/
As far as emergency gear on the boat, we usually don't carry a whole lot. Most guys carry a little spare parts bag with extra shackles, clevis pins, split rings and a multitool/plier. I also carry a tow rope just in case. We believe it is bad luck to carry a paddle…the wind gods see it as a weakness so they withdraw the wind!
None of us carry a throwable life preserver, although I think boats 18' and longer are supposed to. I don't know of anyone ever getting in trouble for this. Good luck, and feel free to email me directly anytime with questions etc.
