We have now updated the events sidebar and the events page so you can all put these great sailing events into your 2009 schedule.  We are looking forward to a monumental year of sailing and celebration of the Utah Sailing Association’s 50th anniversary.  Come join us for some great sailing seminars, family outings, and regattas in 2009!

Thanks to everyone who made it out to our Labor Day event! It was great fun for everyone, especially those who got to join in on the LaBeau LeMans Grand Prix 20. It was a little slow for the first leg of the race, but it was well worth it for the leg back to shore as we were all flying hulls to the finish. You can get more details and view some GPS tracks at the LaBeau LeMans 2008 post.

For those who left early you missed out on some great wind Sunday evening! Tents were flattened, children were rolling down the beach, and a couple of beached catamarans were picked up and flipped over in the 40+ mph wind gusts. The sailing right up to that point was incredible and made it all worthwhile.

The USA has one more event for this year, so don’t put your boat away for the winter just yet. We have our annual Oktoberfest Outing taking place Saturday September 27th up at Pineview Resevoir.

I only recorded the second leg of the race on my GPS. The first leg was pretty slow going so there wasn’t a lot of action. I think I timed in around 1h 55m on the first leg and only 34m on the second leg, so obviously the winds had really picked up over lunch.

The winds on the return trip seemed to come in gusts, but for the most part was pretty strong the whole way. Just about everyone was flying hulls all the way to the finish. A few boats had some close calls with capsizing, but only Randy & Jason really got to practice their trapeze acrobatics before their boat went down.

I never heard what the official race results were, but if I find out I’ll update the post with the top boats.
