I only recorded the second leg of the race on my GPS. The first leg was pretty slow going so there wasn’t a lot of action. I think I timed in around 1h 55m on the first leg and only 34m on the second leg, so obviously the winds had really picked up over lunch.

The winds on the return trip seemed to come in gusts, but for the most part was pretty strong the whole way. Just about everyone was flying hulls all the way to the finish. A few boats had some close calls with capsizing, but only Randy & Jason really got to practice their trapeze acrobatics before their boat went down.

I never heard what the official race results were, but if I find out I’ll update the post with the top boats.

Sailing footage is posted daily at the NBC Olympics sailing page.

There are six racing days for each of the 11 events, the first five days are the opening series and the final day is the medal race, where only the top ten boats from the previous days compete.

We’ve received word that there is a new weekly racing series for the Laser Dinghy Class taking place at Jordanelle Reservoir. They hold 4-6 races every Tuesday night beginning around 6:15-6:30pm. This is a great way to improve your sailing and racing skills. The group is expecting nearly 10 boats on the line at the next event, and are hoping to find more interested sailors.

Secure boat storage is available on-site at the Personal Watercraft Ramp and a new rack is near completion to allow the storage of up to a dozen lasers. Sailors of all ages and abilities are welcome. They have setup a Yahoo Group for the event at Park City Laser Racing.

If your interested in the group, or if you know of any Laser boats that are unused and possibly for sale, then please contact Geoff via the following email address.

We are proud to announce that the 2008 Utah Summer Games Regatta will be hosted by the Utah Sailing Association. We had a great turn out at last year’s event and hope to do so again this summer. All levels of sailors are welcome, you are sure to learn something new!
